PALABRoTAS

[I'm a Colombian-American filmmaker, splitting my time between NY and LA. Here you will find music, musings, things you might find funny and/or offensive, and links to media I'm following. "Palabrota" is a euphemism for obscenities in Spanish. Thanks for visiting.]

As per usual, I’m agreeing with Robinson. Though I’m usually not fond of schmaltzy hart-on-my-sleeve lyrics and long drawn out melodies that actually make hate (not be nostalgic for) love, I wouldn’t call this song that- I would call it blunt. Like a dull razor, blunt. So I’m reblogging.

Something worth noting is that this album is the soundtrack for a film. Similar to another awesome band of 2009, Edward Sharpe, NaTW has been making music videos for each of the songs of this album to be played in sequence. So in the end you get a pretty cool movie. Turns out the lead singer, Charlie Finke, is a frustrated filmmaker.

Noah and the Whale - Blue Skies

NPR’s Stephen Thompson describes Noah and the Whale’s 2009 album First Days of Spring as follows:

It’s another album that works as a full piece, a song cycle. It’s tagged as a breakup record, but it’s really more of an aftermath record. Like a flu shot for heartsickness, it injects a little bit of poison, enough to make you immune.

I haven’t heard much chatter about this band in my corner of the blog world, but this track is beautiful.  Those backing vocals kill me. And the line “This is the last song that I write while I’m still in love with you.” Yee-ouch!  What a gut punch.
